| As a kid I lived in Eastern Oregon in the shadow of the Strawberry Mountains. My passion for nature and the outdoors began early as I grew up playing in the hills and mountains around our town. While I always had an interest in photography I never seriously pursed it until I was in college. I love to be out in nature. Whether that is taking pictures, hiking, camping, fishing or hunting, I feel most at home when the busyness of life and work are too far away to worry about. I am what I would call a self-taught photographer. I am constantly reading, learning new techniques and refining my skills. I have a broad background in photography as it seems like I have done a little of everything at one point or another. What I've found through doing many different types of photography from weddings, senior portraits and landscapes to drag racing, rally cars and sports, is that a solid background in the mechanics of photography combined with a good eye for composition and the desire to make an interesting and unique photograph allows you to be a versatile and talented photographer. I've had the opportunity to work in several different fields including sports medicine, wildland fire and photography. In every walk of life I've found that hard work, listening to people, being prepared and integrity are the keys to being successful. You can be sure when you hire me to photograph you or your event that you will be completely satisfied. If for some reason that you are not, I will do everything in my power to make the situation right. I believe that customer service is one of the most important aspects of business, and one that has seen a rapid decline in recent years. I truly enjoy conversation and meeting new and interesting people. Often I find that the story that goes with a picture is as interesting as the picture itself. I don't believe you can make a true portrait of someone without knowing something about him or her. If you are able to learn someone's personality and what makes them tick, then I think you can find how to best photograph them for who they are. Anyone can make a portrait of a person, but the key to a great portrait is taking a picture that in one shot represents who that person is. I look forward to meeting you and learning your story, and perhaps creating some new stories along the way. Thanks for taking the time to learn more about us at OregonPhotoArt! Email Tim |
I spent most of my childhood on 15 acres of land dotted with alder, fir, and oak trees. For relief from the summer heat, there was a shady creek that flowed year-round. Sleep was sometimes disrupted by the alternate howls of coyotes and the family dogs. What should have been a lazy weekend sometimes turned into a roundup of the neighbor's cattle. While officially only 15 acres small, my backyard consisted of BLM forest extending farther than I ever dared to explore. While I didn't truly appreciate what I had until later in life, it was in this place that I learned to love creation. As I continue to be awed and inspired by the beauty of my surroundings, I also strive to capture some of that emotion with my camera.
Like Tim, most everything I know about photography I learned on my own or from observing other photographers. The online community is a magnificent resource, and the ability to get instant results from the digital medium has shortened the learning curve exponentially. I love photography because I don't think I'll ever completely understand it. The quality of a photograph cannot be measured with a graph or statistics, but only by the care and thought that went into producing it. When I'm not taking pictures, I can be found managing the server and network infrastructure for the only US factory of a Fortune 500 company, hiking, camping, running, biking, reading, playing basketball, entertaining my dog, or learning something new. Thanks for visiting our site. I hope you'll allow us to share in capturing some memories with you. Email Steve |
